Raúl Cantizano

Raúl Cantizano is a non typical flamenco guitar player, or is better to say that he is more that a guitar player. He finished university with a degree in arts (sculpture) in 1999. At the same time and after some years of studying and investigation of experimental music arrives to flamenco music granted by the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco in year 2000.  Since then is a guitar of the tablaos of Seville, plays in many festivals and Theatres from Spain and others places such as USA, Turkey, Holland, France, England, Japan or Portugal.

He has formed the group “Medialuna Flamenca” gathering over the same stage andalusian music and flamenco. He has created and directed the flamenco show “Sal Sobrino”. Together with Santiago Barber  he has created “Bulos y Tanguerías” an experimentation show around flamenco, poetry and performance which has been shown at important Festivals of experimental music like the LEM Festival or Flamenc Empiric in Barcelona, and Nits d`Aielo i art in Valencia. He composes the music of the circus and flamenco show “Malgama” of the theatre Company Varuma Teatro, piece that has been awarded with the Giraldillo Innovación, in the XIV Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla.

He also composes the music for other flamenco shows like “Femenino Plural” of the Compañía Angeles Gabaldón which debut was at the Festival Flamenco de Jerez 2007, or “Restauración” of the Company Punto de Fuga Danza, shown at the Encuentros Flamencos de Granada 2006.

In 2007 becomes part of ” Multaka” a flamenco-andalusi musical project with the Orquesta Chekkara de Tetuan he also takes part of the show “Moroneando” presented in the Festival Flamenco Mont de Marsan and composes the music of the show “Tejidos Al Tiempo” de Choni Cía. Flamenca awarded with the premio Giraldillo Revelación in the XV Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla. Also somposes the music of the show “Del Quivir” of Compañía Angeles Gabaldón presented at the Festival Flamenco de Jerez 2009. Also composes part of the music of the show "TI-ME-TA-BLE" of Marcos Vargas and Chloé Brûlé, awarded with the Giraldillo Innovación in the Bienal 2008.

He is, as we can see an unclassified artist who searches new forms where he can practice and experiment his creativity of flamenco and other music. A brave artist that faces with success the discovering of new sounds and worlds where everything can happen.
